The Phoenix Hall of Byodo-in Temple, located in Uji, Kyoto, is an Amida Hall built in 1053 during the late Heian period. The architecture, which attempted to represent the Pure Land paradise, coupled with its graceful reflection in the pond, has continued to fascinate people for over a thousand years. The hall is home to a National Treasure, the seated statue of Amida Nyorai, and two phoenixes are set on the roof in the shape of a swooping descent. It is a worthy World Heritage Site, conveying the pinnacle of Japanese architecture and Buddhist art to the present day. It is a 30-minute drive from Fugenji Itoutei.
